Michel Huot’s SOCKS is mentalism that is both attention-grabbing and fun. SOCKS is simple and powerful: you show two sets of cards with socks of different colors and designs. You explain that the spectator has to choose two socks and that you hope they can find the one perfect match. As you turn them over two at a time, you show that each pair does not match. When the spectator says stop, you place their chosen card to the side face down. And you show the rest of the socks, which also don’t match.
The spectator turns over the two selected socks and it turns out that they also do NOT match at all: yellow stars on one sock and purple stripes on the other. But you then lift your trouser legs to reveal that you have the exact same socks that the spectator has just chosen. This comes as a huge surprise. This trick is not a card or coin or rope trick. It’s a mental trick with an article of clothing and it’s something everyone can relate to.
You snap and show that the socks now match perfectly in pairs!
