AmazeBox by Mark Shortland. Every once in a while we come across a trick where the method is as inspiring as the effect. “AmazeBox” is the best example of this that we’ve ever come across (think of the wow factor of the best Tenyo elements… but this one you can use on stage for hundreds of people). This effect is simply elegant: a box that switches and forces many different things without you touching it. No electronics. In fact, the method is almost related to origami.
Imagine this: You ask everyone in the audience to write down their favorite song (or a three-digit number, or whatever you want) on a sheet of paper and put it in the cardboard box at the front of the stage. The box is never out of sight and no one touches it. During the show, you ask a spectator to walk up to the box and open it, taking a random sheet of paper. When opening the box, the spectator takes a favorite song or number or ….. Then, later in the show, you can use the information that the spectator has written.
Mentalists will immediately see the many possibilities that this little box offers. It’s lightweight (cardboard), can be decorated or is easy to reset. It’s possibly the only effect we’ve produced that is easier than lightweight. The spectator puts the papers in the box – and you don’t even touch the box in front of the audience.
We are very excited about this incredible box and the ingenuity of the idea of how the box is designed and folded – which means the effect is completely automatic. The effect can’t fail and it’s impossible to see through. It’s a fun effect that involves the audience – and professionals will find this trick invaluable.
